Lilit Makunts has served as Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States since 2021, becoming one of the most visible faces of Armenia’s diplomatic presence in Washington during a period of significant foreign policy reorientation. A former Civil Contract member of the National Assembly, she was appointed to the ambassadorial role as the Pashinyan government deepened its engagement with American and Western institutions following the 44-Day War.
As ambassador during a critical period — encompassing the September 2023 Azerbaijani offensive against Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), the ethnic cleansing of 150,000 Armenians, and the subsequent intensification of Armenia’s Western partnerships — Makunts has been a key channel for Armenian diplomacy in the United States, engaging with Congress, the State Department, and the Armenian-American diaspora.
Groong episodes covering Lilit Makunts address her diplomatic activities in Washington, Armenia’s engagement with the US government and Congress on security and foreign aid, and the broader trajectory of Armenian-American relations during the post-Karabakh period.
