Levon Ter-Petrosyan served as the first President of the Republic of Armenia from 1991 to 1998, leading the country through independence from the Soviet Union, the first Nagorno Karabakh war, and the early years of post-Soviet state-building. He resigned in 1998 amid political pressure over his willingness to accept an international peace proposal on Karabakh that critics viewed as too concessive.
He founded the Armenian National Congress (ANC) party, which remains active in Armenian politics and is registered to compete in the June 2026 parliamentary elections. Groong episodes covering Ter-Petrosyan address his historical legacy, his influence on Armenian political thought, and the ANC’s positions in the current political landscape.
