The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is a Russia-led economic integration bloc that includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Armenia joined the EAEU in 2015.
Armenia’s EAEU membership has become one of the central tensions in its evolving foreign policy. As the Pashinyan government deepened ties with the EU and signed a Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, the compatibility of EAEU membership with closer European integration became an increasingly live political question. Groong episodes covering the EAEU examine Armenia’s trade and economic dependencies within the bloc, the political constraints EAEU membership imposes on Armenian foreign policy, and whether Armenia can realistically pursue EU integration while remaining a member.
Below are all Groong episodes tagged with Eurasian Economic Union.
Ambassador Aghajanian explains why Russia has escalated restrictions on Armenian exports and issued warnings to Pashinyan, arguing Pashinyan has crossed Moscow’s red lines by pursuing a Western pivot while maintaining EAEU membership.
Asbed reveals that remittances from Armenians working in Russia, totaling $3-4 billion annually, are the hidden pillar keeping Armenia’s currency and economy stable.

Dr. Arman Grigoryan joins Groong to discuss Armenia’s post-2020 foreign policy and his argument that Pashinyan’s government has replaced one failed project, maximalist claims over Artsakh, with another: a risky strategic pivot away from Russia and toward the West. The conversation examines “revolutionary recklessness,” the roots of the 2020 war, Armenia’s worsening ties with Russia, the surrender of Artsakh, TRIPP and Syunik, Western encouragement, and the absence of firm security guarantees. Grigoryan also considers whether Armenia is gaining real sovereignty or exposing itself to greater pressure from Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Russia.
