The Armenian Genocide refers to the systematic extermination and deportation of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire beginning in 1915, in which an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were killed. It is recognized as a genocide by numerous countries, international organizations, and scholars, though Turkey has a state policy of denial.
