The Armenian diaspora encompasses Armenian communities spread across the globe following the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and successive waves of emigration. The largest diaspora communities are in Russia, the United States, France, and Lebanon, with significant populations also in Syria, Argentina, and across Europe.
Groong’s coverage of the Armenian diaspora addresses the community’s role in advocacy for Armenian causes — including genocide recognition, support for Nagorno Karabakh, and lobbying on US-Armenia policy — as well as the complex relationship between diaspora Armenians and the government in Yerevan, the question of diaspora engagement in Armenian politics, and the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh Armenians from Nagorno Karabakh and their dispersal into Armenia and diaspora communities following the 2023 offensive.
