Public opinion polling in Armenia serves as a barometer of voter sentiment, party support, and confidence in political institutions at moments of electoral decision and national crisis. Armenian polling is conducted by international organizations including the International Republican Institute (IRI), Sociometer, MPG (a consulting firm), and the Armenian Center for Ethnological and Anthropological Research (CAEAC). Polls measure approval ratings for Pashinyan and Civil Contract , support for opposition parties including the Armenian National Congress , Republican Party of Armenia , Strong Armenia , and Hayastan Dashinq , and public attitudes toward the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process , security, and TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity). Polling has become especially consequential as Armenia approaches the June 7, 2026 parliamentary elections, with multiple surveys released in May 2026 showing substantially different results despite sampling the same electorate.
Significant disparities between disclosed and hidden voting intentions emerged in polling data released before the 2026 election. When IRI and MPG conducted surveys in May 2026, voters reported lower support for opposition parties in direct questioning but indicated higher opposition support when asked about how they would vote if they could do so anonymously or without state pressure. The gap between disclosed and hidden preferences suggests that fear of government retaliation, social pressure, or lack of confidence in ballot secrecy influences how Armenian voters respond to pollsters. This divergence raises fundamental questions about the validity of pre-election polling and the actual composition of the electorate that will cast votes on June 7. Edgar Elbakyan, discussing the wider battle for Armenia’s political future in May 2026, addressed how fear and pressure shape public opinion and why polling results differ so sharply across organizations and methodologies.
The credibility of Armenian polling is further complicated by questions of access, methodology, and the representativeness of respondent samples. International polling organizations operate within constraints imposed by the Armenian government, travel restrictions, and the difficulty of reaching rural populations or communities skeptical of outsiders. Pashinyan’s escalating campaign rhetoric, including his public outburst “Why are you alive?” directed at opposition figures, has intensified the climate of pressure that polls attempt to measure but may simultaneously distort through respondent self-censorship. Whether the 2026 polling data reflects actual voter intention or merely captures the declared preferences of citizens operating under perceived or real state pressure remains contested as Armenia moves toward an election whose outcome may not end at the ballot box.
