Aram Z. Sargsyan is a politician and the chairman of the Republic Party of Armenia. He is the brother of Vazgen Sargsyan, Armenia’s Prime Minister who was assassinated in the October 27, 1999 parliament attack. Following his brother’s death, Sargsyan briefly served as Prime Minister in 2000. He has remained active in Armenian politics as an opposition figure, representing centrist and pro-Western currents that are distinct from both the Civil Contract government and the Armenia Alliance opposition.
The Republic Party has positioned itself as a party committed to Armenian sovereignty, European integration, and accountability — themes that set it apart from the more nationalist opposition movements aligned with former presidents Kocharyan and Sargsyan.
Groong episodes covering Aram Sargsyan address his political commentary on the peace process, Armenia’s democratic institutions, and the opposition landscape as the country prepares for the 2026 parliamentary elections.
