Anastas Mikoyan was one of the most remarkable political survivors in Soviet history, serving in senior positions in the Kremlin from the 1920s through the 1960s — spanning the reigns of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev. Born in 1895 in the village of Sanahin in what is now northern Armenia, he rose to become First Deputy Premier of the Soviet Union and played key roles in Soviet foreign policy, trade, and internal politics.

Mikoyan is remembered in Armenian historical consciousness as one of the most powerful ethnic Armenians in the history of the Soviet state, though his legacy is complex given his participation in Stalinist purges and Soviet political machinery.
